Academic Year Abroad Siena at the Università degli Studi & the Università per StranieriGeneral Background | La Direttrice | Academics | Cultural Activities In order to be eligible for study with AYA in Siena, a student applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and sufficient training (2+ years university training, or else fluency) in Italian and subject-matter courses to take corsi singoli at the Università degli Studi di Siena. Some students for whom review in Italian is necessary will be asked to take language courses at the Università per Stranieri, or participate in intensive language review with Erasmus students. AYA will give careful consideration to the student's application, statement of purpose, official transcript, and language evaluation form. Applicants are chosen on a rolling basis on merit. HOW TO APPLY ACADEMIC YEAR ABROAD You may also download the application forms here: AYA Applications Students are encouraged to request the full AYA application packet, including a brochure and application forms by following this link: Inquiry Form Applications for admission should be made on official AYA forms. Although there is no fixed cut-off date after which applications will not be accepted, an applicant must be aware that AYA practices a sort of rolling admissions whereby sets of applications are reviewed at certain intervals. Candidates are offered places until there are no more openings. When all the places available have been filled, admissions are necessarily closed. Further, an applicant should allow ample time both for gathering the credentials which are required, for the attestation of preliminary admission, and for obtaining the ITALIAN STUDENT VISA, without which it is impossible to enroll in any Italian university. The Visa is affixed only to a valid U.S. or Canadian Passport and requires an attestation from Academic Year Abroad, special application forms filled out in Italian, and a Medical Report. These steps will require at least a month in most cases, often much longer. As a rule, applications for the fall should be completed (not initiated) by the end of May, for the spring by the end of October. |
