The new AYA Direttrice in Siena is Elisa Casini, who is preparing for a career in structural engineering at the Università degli Studi di Firenze. She is the niece of longtime AYA Siena and AYA Madrid Director Maria Viñas Sestini, who has imparted something of her expertise in coordinating overseas programs to her. A native of Siena, Elisa is a graduate of a liceo scientifico and possesses a diploma in the English language. She is fluent in Spanish, for her mother's side of the family are natives of Burgos. Elisa is a capable young woman who stands ready to assist AYA Siena students with whatever issues may arise during their stays in Italy. The role of the Director is to guide AYA students through the maze of study possibilities and see to the organizing of tutorials and the transmission of grades. She maintains contacts with the professors and helps with housing, orientation, and cultural activities. AYA students come to regard the Direttrice as teacher, adviser, and friend, their most important link during their period of study in Siena to the city and the universities. |
