Academic Year Abroad Paris at Paris IV & the Institut Catholique

In order to be eligible for study with AYA in Paris, a student applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and sufficient training in French and subject-matter courses to take courses at either the Université de Paris-Sorbonne or the Institut Catholique. AYA will give careful consideration to the student's application, statement of purpose, official transcript, and language evaluation form. (Students who are relative beginners in French and who intend to take the Cours de Civilisation need not meet the language criterion.) Applicants are chosen on a rolling basis on merit.

Applications for admission should be made on official AYA forms. Although there is no fixed cut-off date after which applications will not be accepted, an applicant must be aware that AYA practices a sort of rolling admissions whereby sets of applications are reviewed at certain intervals. Candidates are offered places until there are no more openings. When all the places available have been filled, admissions are necessarily closed. Further, an applicant should allow ample time both for gathering the credentials which are required, for the attestation of preliminary admission, and for obtaining the FRENCH STUDENT VISA , without which it is impossible to enroll in any French university. The Visa is affixed only to a valid U.S. or Canadian Passport and requires an attestation from Academic Year Abroad, special application forms filled out in French, and a Medical Report. These steps will require at least a month in most cases, often much longer. As a rule, applications for the fall should be completed (not initiated) by the end of May, for the spring by the end of October. Students already in Europe may facilitate the process by making inquiries at our Paris address. Students wishing to correspond with the Directrice in Paris should address their inquiries to Madame Paule Schneersohn, Academic Year Abroad, Reid Hall, 4 rue de Chevreuse, 75006 Paris.
